FAQs

What is the 1847 Pledge Challenge?

The 1847 Pledge Challenge is a campaign to get as many Zetes, as well family members and nonmember friends of Zeta Psi, as possible to show their pride in Zeta Psi by making a nominal donation of at least $18.47.  The Challenge started in 2017 to help celebrate the 170th anniversary of the founding of Zeta Psi, and it's been popular with Brothers ever since.

This year, we are offering incentives for chapters who reach certain milestones:

-25 Unique Donors at $18.47 or More: Earn $500 off your chapter fee.

-50 Unique Donors at $18.47 or More: Earn $1,000 off your chapter fee.

-100 Unique Donors at $18.47 or More: Earn $2,000 off your chapter fee.

-200 Unique Donors at $18.47 or More: Earn $3,800 off your chapter fee.

What will the money be used for?

Zeta Psi Fraternity is committed to growth and expansion. With 16 active expansion projects—14 of them in the United States—we are focused on bringing the values and brotherhood of Zeta Psi to new campuses. Supporting these future chapters demands substantial resources, and your contribution during the 1847 Pledge Challenge will directly fund these vital efforts.

Growth benefits all members! In addition to bringing in new Zetes and expanding our brotherhood, more members help keep costs low. The 1847 Pledge Challenge is all about saving our members money - and the way we'll use the funds raise aligns with that theme.

Why should I participate?

There are several reasons to contribute to the 1847 Pledge Challenge:

  1. Strengthen Brotherhood: Support programs that unite members across generations.
  2. Develop Leaders: Fund leadership and educational initiatives for personal and professional growth.
  3. Expand Our Legacy: Help establish new chapters and grow Zeta Psi.
  4. Give Back: Support the fraternity that shaped your journey.
  5. Make an Impact: Ensure sustainable resources for future generations.
  6. Inspire Action: Encourage others to invest in Zeta Psi’s mission.
  7. Support Your Chapter: Enhance chapter resources and programming.
  8. Freeze Fee Increases: A successful challenge can prevent fee increases for everyone.

Must I give $18.47?

No. $18.47 is a suggested amount. We hope that donors will make a larger gift, but understand that everyone has unique financial circumstances. Gifts of all sizes are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Note: To count toward the 1847 Pledge Challenge incentives, a donation must be at least $18.47 USD.

Why is the campaign launching on March 25th?

March 27, 1879 was the date that Zeta Psi chartered the Theta Xi Chapter at the University of Toronto, making Zeta Psi the FIRST international fraternity.  Whether you are an American, a Canadian, or a European Brother, this ground-breaking effort to go international is a point of pride for all of us.

What if I cannot participate on March 25th?

The 1847 Pledge Challenge will launch on Thursday, March 25th, but it will last for two more days, ending at midnight on Friday, March 27th, so you’ll have plenty of time to make a gift!

Where do I send my check?

This campaign is an on-line campaign. This year, the 1847 Pledge Challenge is being held on CrowdChange, Zeta Psi’s vendor partner for fundraising. Find your chapter on the home page to donate!

Will I get a charitable tax receipt for my donation?

Please note that donations to the Fraternity are not tax-deductible. However, if you would like to make a larger gift and require a tax receipt, you have the option to contribute to the Zeta Psi Foundation. For more details on this process, please contact Drew Hopson at 1847@zetapsi.org.

Is it only open to American Brothers?

No. All Zetes and their chapters are welcome and encouraged to participate!
